I am a Mathematics teacher with several years experience of teaching both in schools and as a personal tutor. I graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2004 where I obtained a PGCE certificate in Mathematics teaching. I passed my teaching induction year in 2005 obtaining qualified teacher status. Prior to this I worked in the engineering industry after having gained a B.Eng (Hons) degree in Electronics.

MY PERSONAL APPROACH TO TEACHING

I offer personal tutoring to students within their own home. I am a friendly and patient teacher and will always do my best to put students at ease in tutoring sessions so that they feel relaxed and able to learn to the best of their ability. Many students inevitably feel quite negative towards Mathematics and over time I have discovered many strategies to help students to overcome these negative feelings and dramatically increase their confidence. I am a strong believer in making sure that students completely understand what underpins the maths they learn. In other words students can sometime learn a set of rules to solve a problem without always fully understanding why it works. However, these methods will often fail when applied to the same problem in a slightly different context. That is why my teaching strategies often include making sure that students fully understand not just how to solve a problem, but also why and how the method works. I also think it is wise to show students many different approaches to solving the same problem for a more complete understanding and so that they can choose which method they are most comfortable with.
